Ignoring the fact that Dzhokhar Tsarnaev actually is an American citizen, this footage of him wrestling a kid named Nathan Gioacchini set to "America (Fuck Yeah)" is amusing. The fact that Tsarnaev ends up losing by points to Gioacchini is supposed to be symbolic, somehow.
If we want to approach Tsarnaev as merely a wrestler and not one of two people who executed horrific attacks against the city of Boston, he isn't that great. His sprawling technique is sloppy (0:11), and he doesn't even try to bridge when he gets taken to his back, instead choosing to flail his legs in the air while pushing off against Gioacchini. And then, when he does have control on the ground, he's not good at keeping it. He focuses too much on the head and forgets entirely about leg control, letting Gioacchini pull off an excellent reversal at 0:38.
At 0:49, when Tsarnaev is in referee's position, he almost lets Gioacchini escape in two seconds, and then, when Gioacchini reaches behind him—one of the dumbest things to do in wrestling—he somehow succeeds in flipping Tsarnaev. With all these sloppy mistakes, it's no wonder that Tsarnaev loses handily on points.
Dzhokhar Tsarnaev: terrible person, awful wrestler.
H/t to Eugene Reznik.
